Utilizing a large natural cave littered with stones is all the Salado Indians found for building their homes. In a protected place overlooking the Salt River Valley, the Salado lived in thick-walled, cliff apartment-like villages nearly 700 years ago. They remained there for several centuries farming the lowlands.
