Often called jewels of the desert, golden poppies carpet the desert floor with an oasis of color in springtime. At Picacho Peak State Park, an entire mountainside can glow with the brilliance of these fragile flowers. At daybreak, as poppies are warmed by the sun, their petals open. As the sun sets, they close.
