NATURAL BRIDGES NATIONAL MONUMENT

Natural Bridges is composed of cross-bedded sandstone known as Cedar Mesa Sandstone. This type of stone shapes well for creating a natural bridge. Desert-type stream channeling and flooding gradually scour a large rock wall with relentless action. In time, it becomes so thin a hole is bored and the bridge work begins.
