Averaging a mile in depth, the Grand Canyon has been carved into the Kaibab Plateau over millions of years. The Paiute Indians described the Canyon with one word - Kaibab. It means, mountains inside out. To stand along a rocky ledge on the North Rim and gaze over this reverse spectacle of nature makes the Paiute word meaningful.
