BLACKTAIL PONDS

Blacktail Ponds serve as a refuge for moose, deer, muskrat, beaver, geese, ducks and many small animals. These marshy backwaters of the Snake River were named after the nearby Blacktail Butte. Blacktail deer (mule deer) browse on the butte's flat summit and slopes, then in evenings wander down to these ponds for water.
