Three Forks

Upon reaching the Three Forks of the Missouri River, the Lewis and Clark Expedition was faced with deciding which fork would lead them toward the Continental Divide and eventually to the Pacific Ocean. After much deliberation and discussions with Sacajawea, they chose the western most tributary and appropriately named it the Jefferson River.
