GAYFEATHER

Plume-like purple flowers, gayfeathers are arranged on slender spikes. When in bloom, these flowers can be seen coloring dry, open areas. Gayfeathers prefer sandy soils. The plant grows from an underground structure called a corm, which is a layered bulb much like an onion.
