CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK

Grayish-white domes and peaks dominate the skyline of Capitol Reef. This rugged scenery of the nearly 100-mile Water-pocket Fold is composed of Navajo, Kay-enta and Wingate Sandstones. The park's name, Capitol Reef National Park, was inspired by rock formations resembling capitol buildings and the great rock barrier described is a nautical term.
