SEGO LILY

This creamy-white tulip-like flower blooms on dry open hillsides and among sagebrush. It is also known as mariposa lily. The plant possesses a bulbous root, which is edible and nutritious. Used as food and named by the Shoshone Indians, early settlers learned to survive on its potato-like bulb.
