CEDAR BREAKS NATIONAL MONUMENT

Cedar Breaks Natural Monument preserves a great geologic amphitheater that is more than 2,000 feet deep and 3 miles across. Uplift and erosion have created an unusual array of multi-colored cliffs, canyons, arches, and spires within this huge coliseum atop the 10,000-foot-high Markagunt Plateau. The natural weathering of iron and manganese within the rock has saturated the landscape in hues of red, yellow, and purple.
