For miles and miles in any direction, Eastern Washington is a region of rich farmland, gently rolling hills and splendid isolation. This is where the once arid wasteland of the Columbia Basin was transformed by irrigation into a land of plenty. As a summer thunderstorm builds, one can gaze across this country with pride.
