Devils Tower National Monument

Devils Tower was designated America's first national monument in 1906. It is the remains of a volcano core which has been exposed and eroded for millions of years. Devils Tower stands as one of the largest igneous monoliths in the country. According to Indian legends, the fluted rock formations resulted from the scratching of grizzly bear claws.
