Norris Geyser Basin

Yellowstone is what it is today because of intense volcanic activity. Thousands of years ago the earth's crust, abnormally thin in this area, was badly cracked from eruptions. When water flows into these cracks and is heated by magma, it returns to the surface as steam and boiling water. Norris Geyser Basin displays such a geothermal landscape.
