SPRAGUE LAKE

Sprague Lake has thawed and is. ready for springtime activity. The lake was named for Abner Sprague, often called "the patriarch of Estes Park." He arrived in the region by covered wagon around 1864 and never left. An innkeeper, guide and early mapmaker, Sprague named many natural features in what is now Rocky Mountain National Park.
