GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK

The wind is the predominant force shaping the Great Sand Dunes. These dunes are piled at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Prevailing winds blowing against the mountains pick up bite of rock and drop these grains on the dunes. Over time, this action has created some of the tallest dunes in the world.
