The restless waves of Lake McDonald splash against the shore as winds sweep down the valley. After being run out of the North Fork in 1878 by hostile Indians, Duncan McDonald set up camp near Apgar. He carved his name in a birch tree and gradually people began calling the lake, "McDonald's
