LITTLE CHIEF MOUNTAINA crescent of brilliant golden cot-tonwoods outlines the shoreline of St. Mary Lake as a snow-capped Little Chief stands like a sentinel overlooking the valley. Little Chief Mountain was named by George Bird Grinnell in 1887. It honored Major Frank North, Chief of the Pawnee Scouts in Nebraska during the 1860's. |
