Lupine

Stands of lupine flourish on hillsides and scent the air. These plants grow in colorful clumps of blue or lilac on leaflets radiating in narrow fingerlike projections. Lupine are members of the Pea Family and encase their fruit in pea pods covered with fine hairs. Elk browse on lupine flowers and pods.
