An aged juniper stands silhouetted against this massive sandstone relic, Capital Butte. This cornerstone of Sedona Valley dominates the skyline of the colorfully eroded sedimentary forma-tions. This land mass was once a great inland sea inhabited by prehistoric animals, as evidenced by fossils imbedded in rocks far above the valley floor.
