WILD CROCUS

Sometimes called pasque flower, blue tulip or prairie anemone, this delicate lavender crocus is usually the first flower to appear when spring arrives. Different from some other flowers, it has sepals instead of petals and develops a fruit resembling a lion's beard when mature. Look for this flower among prairie grasslands bordering forested hillsides.
