Purple Onion

Since ancient times, wild onions have been savored for their taste. Bear and elk munch this plant as do many other mammals. Yet, aside from its edible qualities, purple onion plants are distinc-tively attractive. Tissue-like bracts which produce the flower clusters usually appear by mid-summer and add a hint of contrasting color to a meadow.
