When fireweed goes to seed, its long pods unfurl like artistic swirls of silk. A brisk autumn breeze can quickly carry away each little parachuted seed. Fireweed took its name because its flower resembles a flame and the plant quickly establishes itself after a forest fire. Deer, elk and grizzly bear forage on this plant.
