Massive bison roam the hillsides as the last rays of sun highlight golden grasses. As part of our natural heritage, these animals symbolize America's commit-ment to conservation. Once vast herds covered the expansive grasslands across the plains. Continual advancement of settlers and the railroad, the stately bison almost became extinct.
