COLUMBIAN GROUND SQUIRREL

This large bushy-tailed ground squirrel is about to nibble a wildflower for a treat. In hibernation from about August to March, Columbian ground squirrels emerge quite hungry and actively scurry about in search of food during spring and summer. Meadows, open areas bordering forests and even cultivated fields compose their habitat.
