Bitterroot

A large conspicuous pink flower, the bitterroot appears to be leafless because the leaves generally whither before the plant blooms. This showy flower can be discovered on rocky mountain slopes growing very close to the ground. Its scientific name, Bitterroot Lewisa, is named for Captain Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
