FIREHOLE RIVER

Framed by pine trees with thunder-heads rising in the distance, wide meanders of the Firehole River create a tranquil mood. With its gentle flow and lush grasses, how did this river become known as the Firehole? In 1850, Jim Bridget- and Kit Carson wandered into this area. They "...saw the geysers of the lower basin and named tiie river that drains them the Firehole."
