FIREHOLE RIVER

For such a serene place with tall grasses lining its banks and swans floating downstream, how could this river be known as the Firehole? When Jim Bridger, Kit Carson and others wandered into the area in 1850, they "…saw the geysers of the lower basin and named the river that drains them the Firehole."
