LAMAR VALLEY

An old rustic fence zigzags across the sagebrush hillside as bright yellow cottonwoods signal the arrival of fall. First to describe this valley drained by the Lamar River, fur trapper Osborn Russell called it, "Secluded Valley" in 1835. The river and valley were later named for Lucius Lamar, Secretary of the Interior from 1885 to 1888.
